Is the University Just a Museum for Your Brain? Why Your Degree is Obsolete

The idea of the university is to go to school, get a grade, get a job, and live forever in one job until you are 60-65 years old, when you retire and die. If we have that in mind, going to the university makes no sense at all. People on X (Twitter) are also realizing why we should go to the university. There is more than one tweet saying the only thing you need is to learn how to make a job, and you are all set after a couple of months of repetition.

One user on reddit came up with the exact same idea I got is the university really necessary, or can I build a carrer out the university?, the university really necessary, or can I build a career outside of the university?

All this is supported by the reports from the National Student clearing house report, that shows the computer science drop significally from 15% to 5.8%, this support the idea that the university make no sense on the AI era.

And why should it make sense if, at the end, we want an end product that works? Why should I learn something that the AI can do faster and better (debatable by the way),

The wrong concept of the university

The university seems like something from the last century that makes no sense in this one; it looks outdated and antiquated. Something that has to be only in museums, like imagine those hard days when people were learning by themselves instead of asking any AI chat, tough right? Well, if the premise is that the university will make me rich or give me a good future, then of course, the university makes no sense to exist. But what is the purpose of the university if it is not something about making me rich?

I know people who studied with me in college, and now they do things completely different from what they studied, including me. But there is something you cannot learn just by repeating and implementing. That is how to think, be critical, question in the right place why we do things, why things happen in certain ways, and so on.

Learn that thinking is difficult, that it is extremely easy, and that is why it is difficult. Easy things create difficult approaches. We think all day, 24/7, but we don't think critically all the time. There is a difference between thinking and critical thinking. The university helps with that, not only in how to think critically.

During my master's, I've realized this idea about why I should make assignments by reading books and typing by myself, the AI is there and can do it for me. The issue with that is that our brain is lazy and tends to enjoy easy things; we have to force ourselves to learn and make it difficult.

More difficult, better results

The difficult things create better results. While I am studying or reading books on a topic for research or an assignment, I force my brain to think, and in doing so, I also tend to ask myself questions. I write down a few comments about what I'm doing and how everything is connected.

If i just tell an AI to make an assigment I will never understanding the topic Im reseaching though my senstion of being productive will be satisfied and I will feel good for a moment until I realized that I have not learn anything. And why is it important to think?

The benefits of thinking are:

• Enhanced decision making
• Effective problem solving
• Reduction of cognitive biases
• Enhanced communication skills
• Develop analytical skills
• Practice reflection

If we just tell the AI what to do to mark something as done, we are just doing nothing, and we are not learning either.

The university trap

Going to university in the AI era is not only about making money or getting a job; it is about more than that. Going to the university is making society critical, enhancing abilities, but we are still animals that need social interactions. If we disconnect from interactions, our brains will first suffer the decadence of obsolescence. Then the society.

Going to the university is a trap in the sense that it aligns with the goals each individual has, but if you go to the university, you will see things from a different perspective because it is what you need to do.

By doing research, I tend to think more than I type or read; I consider different perspectives and explore problems and possible solutions. Exposing your research to another person gives you the gift of being analyzed; this opens a door to other perspectives and helps you think more critically.
